Yesterday, we, the HoV-BUET members arranged a reception for the new members in BUET Del-Café. Dr. Zia Wadud, Asst. Professor, deparment of Civil Engineering and moderator of our club was also with us. The freshers and the old ones made themselves introduced to each other. We had discussions about the projects. The freshers seemed to be very curious! They were asking many things like how the projects are running or where the sites are located now etc. The most hopeful thing was that they were not only listener there! They shared their opinion, made suggestions which is very encouraging.

Along with the reception we also had our Annual General Meeting yesterday too. An executive committee was proposed by our former member Onim vai. The committee was approved by all the members.

We showed Zia Sir the proposed budget for this year. Again, it was his suggestion to collect new members more from junior batches.

Here are a few plans. We want to open at least two new CLCs this year. It is not possible for us to run more CLCs at present, as we need more members for this. So, another plan is to make the club populated with efficient and dedicated volunteers.

Shuvo vai, Forhad and three new members from ’09 batch will pay a visit to Jaynagar CLC on next Thursday. Another team may pay a visit to a school in Khagrachori for feasibility test. If the result is positive, we may hope for opening a new CLC before our PL.

There was a proposal from Bappi Vai. He asked us if it possible to work with Khan Academy as a group of translators. He has some contacts there and they have asked him for help. Neelam has already joined them. She shared her experience and everyone was curious. Bappi Vai will now contact them.

Recently BUET has arranges its first club fair. The fair was started on 26th March. HoV-BUET had its stall in the fair. This fair was of much importance for us as we could represent ourselves through it. A huge number of people visited the stall. Some were laughing because of the name HoV, as it contains the word ‘volunteers’ with it! But there we get ourselves introduced to guys who were really curious to work with us. So,what was the consequence? Any guess!?Yes! We’ve new members with us and the number is not so bad as it is about 30!. When the V.C. and other teachers visited us,they looked interested in our projects. Specially, Book Drive drew their attention most. They also advised us to make the new members more involve. So, briefly we can say that we were successful in the fair.:)

On December 18, the HoV-BUET team had a meeting with Adnan Vai and Faisal Vai at BUET Cafe.Spotlight of the discussion was mainly on the activities of our team for the upcoming year. Adnan vai was provided with information of latest updates of the CLC at Jaynagar.We also thought about making the new members busy with some jobs in order to inspire them to be involved with HoV.Here to be noted that we have a number of new enthusiastic members now.

The team was eagerly waiting for opening new CLC within this year. Opening new CLC is also important for involving the SUST team.But the reality is that we don’t have enough fund now for opening new CLC.So, we also discussed about how to raise fund locally.Adnan Vai is already working for it. That sounds so good that we’re hopeful to open a new CLC in January.

We’ve to complete two tasks within two weeks. Such as-

• Arranging a meeting with HoV-BRACU, HoV-BUET, Adnan Vai, Ashirul Vai.

• Forming an executive committee for HoV-BUET.

There are also some things that are to be done. The responsibilities goes to Bappi Vai, Jyoti Vai, Tazin Vai, Shuvo Vai. These are in details as following:

• Providing us with the update of Jaynagar CLC (Shuvo Vai)-deadline:1 week
• Communication with HoV-BRACU (Bappi Vai)-deadline:1 day
• Making a proposal (Tazin Vai)-deadline:December
• Making a manual (Jyoti Vai)-deadline: 1 week

These are all that we decided that day.

Now,I’m gonna say some unofficial things.Bappi vai likes to honor the seniors. He also likes to arrange party for juniors like the members of ‘08 batch. As we’ve Adnan vai and Ashirul vai with us after a year,Bappi vai is going to arrange a party for our brothers and all the members of HoV-BUET. Members of ‘08 batches are specially asked to get ready.Yeaaaahhhhh!!!!! I’m ready guys. What about my friends and brothers??? Are you ready?

Hi everyone.How r u? We from BUET want to add something about our future activities in the calender. But how we can add? Plz answer.

At 4:00 we met at Ahsan Ullah Hall (BUET).Adnan vai,Faysal vai,Hasan vai,Shahed vai,Shamim vai were there.The members from HoV-BUET,HoV-IBA,HoV-BRACU joined the meeting.Some of the members could not attend the meeting due to their classes.

We shared our experiences there.The obstacles and the ways to overcome were discussed.

We decided to do some tasks.Such as:
1. HoV-IBA and HoV-BRACU would make a guideline about i-school.
2. HoV-BUET would make guideline about OCEP.
3. The three chapters would meet monthly.

The next meeting would be held at BRAC University after 15th January.

Hi all

The day before yesterday I along with Adnan Vai, Jyoti had a brief tele conference with some Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) students. They seemed very much enthusiastic about our program. We have stated our condition and progress to them. We also expressed our expectation and objectives with them. Finally we set some target to achieve a new charter under the umbrella of HoV. We are continuously keeping connection with them. I hope it would be another achievement for us.

We are going to have an official cell phone no for HoV_BUET chapter. Soon I’ll declare that. Stay Tuned.

I can write in the blog now……..thanks ADNAN VAI.

BUET team is going to officially open second CLC (Computer Learning Centre) 17th December. Already 5 computers has been set up on that location. All are operating nicely. 4 members of BUET team consisting of Jyoti, Tazin, Bijoy & Shuvo stayed there for three days to train the teachers of that school a month ago. The school routine has been revised according to our plan and made room for 3 classes per week. 2 batches comprises of 10 boys and 10 girls has been selected by their merit list.

So now it seems everything is quite satisfactory and we are ready to move on. I wish tomorrow we will have another nice feather to wear on. Definitely the pictures & tales of tomorrow will be updated at this blog..So stay tuned. Keep in touch.

Today we (BUET team) had 2nd meeting with Adnan vai at 12.00pm. But unfortunately i could not attend to the meeting at the right time due to my personal work. i was out of BUET so i could’t….But when reached, the meeting was finished. I felt so ashamed . Normally 10 ,15 or 20 mins later meeting starts than the given time. so we late sometimes intentionally or not .But we saw Adnan vai was exact time.  I can remember when i was in Notre Dame College i was so punctual but now what happens(!)….

Whatever ,then Adnan vai showed how be a member of this blog & wiki etc. He told us ”Before giving computers or teaching about computers all you should know thoroughly  about what we are going to give them and what we want  that they should know “.

He also emphasized “our job should not take a survey before opening a computer center & then open a computer center but we must communicate with the center at least after one week or two to know whether computer is running or not or students feel how /is there any problem? etc.”.

Next 25th December we will go to Comilla (Joynagar) to inaugurate Joynagar center. All of we egarly waiting and preparing  us for the program.

BUET

On Dec 3, Shoishob, Bappi and Jyoti went to visit the OSCEP Center at Mukundopur, and see how things were going.

The instructor, Mr. Syful, has covered a lot of material, although there are some hardware issues. They spent some time talking to the students and the teachers about how the program is being run, and the future. We anticipate teachers of the schools taking up more of the teaching soon, assisted by peer educators from this graduating class.
